Why I write—Christine Otten

I write because I would be lost if I didn’t.

I write because the world is full of stories and I don’t want to be confined to my own story, my own life, my own body. Writing (fiction) allows me to be someone else, to be a man, to be black, to be old, to be a child again, to be a criminal or a musician, a psychiatrist,  an American, a Muslim, or someone from completely other era.

To immerse myself in other people’s lives, their worlds, through language, words, helps me understand life a little bit better. Helps me understand myself a little bit better.

I write because I want to connect with other people.
