Christine Otten & The Last Poets at Edinburgh International Book Festival!

Christine Otten, author of The Last Poets, will talk with Umar Bin Hassan, Abiodun Oyewole and Baba Donn Babatunde about their lives and their poetry in what will be their first performance in Scotland.

The Last Poets

The Last Poets were formed in the US in the late 1960s, a period full of hope and a time when the Black Panthers were at the height of their power. Their passionate and self-critical performance poetry has influenced generations of musicians, securing them the title of ‘the founding fathers of hip-hop’.

Christine Otten

Christine Otten’s novel is based on The Last Poets’ life stories, from their childhood in the ghetto to their love lives, triumphs and defeats. Whilst writing this novel, Christine Otten sat down to interview several members of The Last Poets and they have remained friends ever since.
