World Editions is looking for an English native-speaker copy-writer/editor to join their team in Amsterdam.
You are a reliable, meticulous grammar nerd with a sharp eye for detail and error, and a minimum of 5 years of experience in copywriting, line-editing, copy-editing and proof-reading in fiction publishing. You will copy-edit and proof-read all promotional copy and ensure it is free of spelling, grammar and punctuation errors. Occasionally you will also copy-edit or proof-read the books themselves.
You are also an experienced and talented copy-writer, with a deep sense and understanding of style, a love and feel for language, and you enjoy the challenge of writing the best possible pitch for each of our publications. You are aware of publishing trends and cultural trends in general, and are an outstanding communicator in writing. You will write and/or edit the flap copy, promotional copy for our distribution partners in the U.S. and U.K., press releases,
texts for our website and other social media, and all sorts of other promotional texts.
You are highly flexible and able and willing to respond to different types of demands between writing flap-texts and press releases, copy-editing and proof-reading, sensitive to the different purposes to which the texts are aimed. You can maintain high-quality work while meeting tight deadlines. There will be plenty of variety in the job, and you’ll be closely involved in many aspects of the publishing process.
You will join a growing, dynamic and ambitious international publishing house. You will be part of a small team in this position and will work closely with the Publishing Director and with the Sales and Marketing Director.
Knowledge of other languages, particularly Dutch, is a plus. You may be an English native speaker from any English-speaking country of the world, but you do need to have a good working knowing of American English and be comfortable with it.
The position is potentially on a part-time basis for the first 6 months, but will soon grow into a full-time position. Negotiable salary commensurate with experience.
