Three World Editions Titles Receive Our First Starred Reviews

Adrift: How Our World Lost Its Way by Amin Maalouf, translated from the French by Frank Wynne, received a starred review from Kirkus: “A Camus for our time, Maalouf urges that civilization is “fragile, shimmering, evanescent”—and perhaps doomed.

The Summer of Kim Novak by Håkan Nesser, translated from the Swedish by Saskia Vogel, received a starred review from Publishers Weekly: “Nesser sensitively probes the agonies and ecstasies of adolescence, making this an exquisite example of Nordic noir’s ability to reveal the darkest emotional depths beneath a cloudless summer sky.”

The Bitch by Pilar Quintana, translated from the Spanish by Lisa Dillman, received a starred review from Publishers Weekly: “A searing psychological portrait of a troubled woman contending with her instinct to nurture is at the heart of Colombian writer Quintana’s slim, potent English-language debut…The brutal scenes unfold quickly, with lean, stinging prose. Quintana’s vivid novel about love, betrayal, and abandonment hits hard.”
